CoE: Public hearing on the handling of the Swine Flu pandemic/Öffentliche Anhörung zum Umgang mit der Schweinegrippe-Pandemie
15.01.2010: A public parliamentary hearing titled "The handling of the H1N1 pandemic: more transparency needed?” is to be held on the fringe of the plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in Strasbourg from 8.15-10 a.m. on Tuesday 26 January, immediately followed by a press conference.

The hearing, organised by the Assembly’s Committee on Social, Health and Family Affairs, will bring together representatives of the World Health Organisation (WHO) and of European vaccine manufacturers, as well as independent medical experts, to discuss this topic with parliamentarians. Some members of the Assembly - including the initiator and outgoing Chair of PACE’s Sub-committee on Health Wolfgang Wodarg (Germany, SOC)[1] - requested in a motion in December that the Assembly look into this question.
The hearing is open to the press. Both hearing and press conference will be webcast live (and there will be archiv-videos to be found on the PACE-Website).
[1]. Mr Wodarg ceases to be a member of the Assembly, and Chair of its Sub-committee on Health, on Monday 25 January and will become a Honorary Member of the PACE. He will attend the hearing in an expert capacity.
Öffentliche Anhörung zum Umgang mit der Schweinegrippe-Pandemie
Eine öffentliche parlamentarische Anhörung mit dem Titel „Der Umgang mit der H1N1-Pandemie: Ist mehr Transparenz erforderlich?” wird am Rande der Plenarsitzung der Parlamentarischen Versammlung des Europarates (PACE) am Dienstag, den 26. Januar, in Straßburg von 08.15 – 10.00 Uhr stattfinden; direkt danach folgt eine Pressekonferenz.
Die vom Ausschuss für Gesundheit, Familie und Soziales der Versammlung organisierte Anhörung wird Vertreter der Weltgesundheitsorganisation (WHO) und der europäischen Impfstoffhersteller sowie unabhängige medizinische Sachverständige zusammenführen, um dieses Thema mit Parlamentariern zu diskutieren. Einige Mitglieder der Versammlung – darunter der scheidende Vorsitzende des Unterausschusses der PACE für Gesundheit, Wolfgang Wodarg (Deutschland, SOC)1 – forderten in einem Antrag im Dezember, dass die Versammlung diese Frage behandelt.
Die Anhörung steht für die Presse offen. Sowohl die Anhörung, als auch die Pressekonferenz werden live im Internet übertragen.
1 Wolfgang Wodarg wird als Mitglied aus der Versammlung und dem Vorsitz des Unterausschusses der Versammlung für Gesundheit am Montag, den 25. Januar, ausscheiden und wird an diesem Tag die Ehrenmitgliedschaft der ER PV verliehen bekommen. Er wird an der Anhörung in der Eigenschaft als Fachmann teilnehmen.
